Foraged fruit and berries are brilliant. I had vowed that I wouldn't do any foraging this year, as I still have a shelf filled with assorted jams and jellies to use, plus tubs of garden-grown fruit in the freezer, but today's walk proved to be too tempting. Read more

  1. Here in the Midlands, there are abundant elderberries. Sorry! On Saturday afternoon, I came home with a carrier bag full and could have had 10 bags or more from just one stretch of country lane. I simmered them yesterday and have them straining though the jelly bag ready for me to carry on to elderberry syrup tonight after work.

    1. I'm not too sure what has happened to our elderberries or sloes, for that matter, as there are very few of those about despite miles of hedgerow. Perhaps the really heavy snowfall we had in March affected them. Red berries are all abundant and there were a few sprays of green elderberries, elsewhere they were looking totally picked clean already, even on the tree tops.

Have fun making your elderberry syrup. :)
